Statement of Purpose as Petroleum Engineer Essay - 1078 Words

Personal Statement As a graduate applicant to the MEng program in Petroleum Engineering, I am writing my ideas, thoughts and the reasons to pursue this program at C. I have come across several fields of petroleum exploration and production during my undergraduate and graduate studies. After long deliberations and self-assessment of my capabilities, my academic background, industrial exposure, research interests and my professional goals, I have chosen this discipline to pursue my graduate studies. My excellent academic training both at undergraduate and graduate levels, academic achievements and rigorous study habits have provided me the necessary set of skills to apply for a challenging program of Petroleum Engineering. I did my†¦show more content†¦The knowledge I gained from the courses was substantiated by undertaking several lab sessions during the program. I successfully completed the program with first class and my overall performance was within top 5 percent. The engineering program at the UofM not only provided me with a strong fundamental knowledge but also exposed specialized fields in industrial instrumentation. Undergraduate Research Project I got the opportunity to do my final year research project in ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) Ltd, which is a Govt. of India undertaking, an exploration production venture and listed as one of the Fortune 500 Company. I under took project on â€Å"Discrete Analysis of a Level Control Loop† at ONGC LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) plant, Uran, Maharashtra. The project basically dealt with the stability analysis of a Level Control loop which is regulating level of coolant in a tank that is being supplied to Gas Turbines which are generating electricity. The most challenging part of the whole project was to determine I/O (Input Output) relationship between the various elements present in the loop without disturbing its smooth operation. I had the opportunity to use several software’s for computing and mapping the loop response.
